Minneapolis, MN - Supercross Race Recap

Minneapolis marked the third and final round of the Triple Crown format for the 2018 Supercross series. Both 250 and 450 riders would compete in 3 separate main events during the night program. All vying for individual main event wins and the overall win on the night.

250 -

The 250 class would see Austin Forkner come into the night in second place in the championship standings, just 7 points behind series leader Zach Osbourne.

Austin was at the front during the day qualifying sessions, trading the top spot with Zach Osbourne and Jeremy Martin eventually posting the third fastest time going into the night event.

Austin jumped out to a great start in the first main event, grabbing the holeshot and running away with the win. It looked as though it was going to be a good night for Austin as they headed into the second of three mains.

As the second main started, Austin was off to a good start, sitting about 4th as they rounded the first turn. As the riders entered a rhythm section on the first lap, Austin ran wide and landed on a tuff block on the side of the track going down in the process. Austin remounted quick and started his charge back through the pack. Austin would go down several times as he tried to work his way through the field. The final fall coming on the last lap within sight of the finish line, costing him more positions. He would eventually finish 10th.

As the third main event started, Austin was looking to rebound from his rough second main event. He started well, working his way into third early in the race. His luck would run out mid-way through the main with a hard crash in the whoops. Austin went down hard with his bike landing on him after his initial impact. Austin was able to walk off the track under his own power but appeared to be favoring his left shoulder.

Early reports have Austin with an injured left collarbone.

450 -

Chad Reed would qualify directly into the night program posting the 12 fastest time qualifying.

Chad would finish 12th and 13th in the first two main events with a 9th in the final main of the night. The combined finishes would have Chad finish 13th overall for the night.
