Atlanta, GA - Supercross Race Recap

Atlanta was the second Triple Crown event of the year. A format that forces riders to qualify directly into the main events via timed qualifying during the day. If you do not make it in on your time, you must race the last chance qualifier during the day program.

The 250 class saw some amazing racing during the night. Both Fox Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders, Austin Forkner and Martin Davalos running at the front in all three main events.

Main 1 – Davalos grabbed the holeshot and looked to have control of the race until a mistake saw him go down handing the lead to points leader Zach Osbourne. Osbourne would go on to win with Austin Forkner finishing 4th.

Main 2 – Austin Forkner and Martin Davalos both got great starts in the second main, with Austin pulling the holeshot and Martin right behind him in second. Mid race saw Austin holding off a charge from Zach Osbourne for the lead with the riders coming together. Osbourne would go down while Austin retained the lead. As the race reached the closing stages Martin closed on Austin and passed for the lead on the last lap. Austin would finish second.

Main 3 – Martin Davalos came out the first turn in 3rd with Austin buried mid pack. Martin quickly worked his way into second. A mistake in the whoops would end Martin’s bid for a win. Austin worked his way through the pack needing to pass one rider in the closing stages to clinch the overall. He was able to make the pass on the last lap and get his second win in a row and close to within 2 points of championship leader Zach Osbourne as they head to Daytona.

Chad Reed continued to build on his all-time main event starts record with his 229th main event start. Chad had consistent rides in two of the three main events on the night, finishing inside the top 10. A rough second moto had Chad ending the night in 10th overall.
