Cianciarulo & Forkner Score in San Diego

The 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Championship series headed to San Diego this weekend for Round 6. Set in the middle of downtown, Petco Park always provides a great venue for racing, and this year was no different. Ken Roczen came into the weekend holding the top position in the 450 Class points battle, and Chad Reed, a 6-time winner in San Diego, planned to say goodbye to his beloved Southern California fans as his farewell tour continues. Austin Forkner was looking to stay in the 250 Class title hunt and finish strong before the series moves to the east coast.

SHIFT SPECIAL EDITION

The Shift crew made some noise on Friday before the races as they rolled out a special San Diego Padres themed gear set with Josh Hansen. Hanny always pulls together the best head-to-toe look. He totally took over the internet on Friday afternoon. The SD84 Athlete Exclusive release was as good as gone on by Monday morning.

ADAM MAKES IT SIX IN A ROW

In 450 qualifying, it was the rookie Adam Cianciarulo that topped the boards yet again on his factory Kawasaki ride. After a 2nd place finish in his 450 debut in Anaheim, AC looked determined to keep himself at the front of the pack. Ken Roczen made the trip out to St. Louis a day early and rode press day on Friday - and the German was feeling the flow while clocking the 4th fastest overall time.

CHAD’S SAN DIEGO FAREWELL

It was another special weekend for Chad Reed as the winningest San Diego SX rider took the opportunity to say goodbye to the SD faithful. To celebrate this special moment, Chad worked closely with our own Clay Williams to design a special one-off San Diego Chargers themed kit.

PRO CIRCUIT HEAT 1

The Pro Circuit Kawasaki team absolutely dominated 250 Heat #1. Austin Forkner & Cameron McAdoo took the lead early and earned first and second place respectively.

RED PLATE. RED HAIR. HEAT WIN.

Next up, in the 450 Class, was Ken Roczen taking his flashy new hairstyle to the top step of the podium in a dominant performance in Heat #1, while Adam Cianciarulo earned his own win in Heat #2.

SAN DIEGO 250 MAIN

In the 250 Main Event, Austin Forkner was able to grab a solid start and held 2nd position for the first few laps before moving into the lead past Michael Mosiman. Forkner held control at the front of the pack for a majority of the race before relinquishing the lead with just a few laps to go. The Missouri native ended up 2nd Place on the night for his second week in a row and will go into the break for the East Coast rounds holding 3rd position in the Championship standings.

SAN DIEGO 450 MAIN

Adam Cianciarulo got off to another great start in the 450 Main Event and held the lead as the best SX riders in the world went to battle. Ken Roczen, on the other hand, was not as fortunate on the start and had his work cut out for him as he fought for position on the opening laps. As the race ran down, AC conceded the lead but was able to finish up in 2nd, matching his career-best finish from Anaheim 1 and earning his second podium of the season. Roczen was only able to muster up a 6th Place finish but still holds control of the Overall points lead as the series heads to Florida for Round 7 in Tampa. See you next week!
